You had tested positive for COVID. How was it bouncing back at work post-recovery?
COVID affects people differently. I had milder symptoms despite taking utmost precautions and following COVID-appropriate behaviour. During the isolation period, I was aware of my situation and stayed calm, followed what doctors advised me… eating good food, resting, staying hydrated, and sleeping enough. It did well for me.
‘Jeet Ki Zid’ earned you several fans. Tell us how you prepared for the role.
‘Jeet Ki Zid’ is based on Major Dipendra Singh Sengar‘s life. He is a Kargil war hero who fought against all odds he encountered in war or personal life. Sitting in a wheelchair put me into the shoes of those people for whom this is a reality. Restricted mobility, being confined to a chair and having no sense of walking free is something I could’ve never imagined.
It was an honour for me to essay him on screen. The physical transformation was one of the most crucial aspects, and I loved taking on every bit of that challenge. My creative quest helped me to do justice with the character. It is always an honour to represent our great Indian Army. Major Deep’s never-give-up attitude is a great life lesson for all of us.
You have always been vocal on social media. You also took a break recently and went offline for some time…
I did what I had to do. It helped me stay inwards, reflect, and concentrate on being a better version. With so much noise on social media, people were losing lives, money, and jobs, and I would be stupid if I made reels and posted pictures. Having said that, I am aware of the love and the bond I share with my fans and people who like to communicate with me on these platforms. They mean a lot to me. They are so understanding whenever I need my time to go in a tunnel. They do not judge me for it, and they don’t even make fun of me when I am back. They welcome me with genuine love and warmth when I post silly pictures and reels.
We all need to introspect and spend time with ourselves in life. I remain grateful for my audience, people, and fans’ understanding of that aspect of my life and allowing me my freedom to be in my space.
What is the most exciting thing you are looking forward to in 2022?
I am optimistic about 2022 and looking forward to working harder. I am hoping for better days.
