Terry Carter started his acting career with Broadway and off-Broadway stage. He worked in several productions and played roles like a male lead role opposite Eartha Kitt in Mrs. Patterson. In the musical extravaganza Kwamina, he played the title role.
Year 1965 to 1968: During this period, Carter worked for WBZ-TV as a weekend newscaster in Boston. He worked as an anchor and reporter at that news station. He was also the first black opening-night theatre and movie critic for New England television.
Carter later revealed to the black press that he was fired from his job, as Westinghouse (owner of WBZ) had many objections to Carter’s role in various community projects. However, WBZ opposed this claim and said that he resigned from the station. Without him, there were no black TV news reporters in Boston at that time.
After having a great career in acting, Terry Carter started Meta/4 Productions Inc., a small Los Angeles corporation. This was his first venture as Producer. For the federal government, he started producing educational and industrial presentations on films.
In 1979, he founded Positive Images Inc. Then, he became the president of this non-profit organization. This organization was dedicated to promoting interethnic and intercultural understanding through the means of audiovisual communication.
He also produced various documentary and dramatic programs that won him several awards worldwide.

With becoming one of the first series to have two African-Americans in the main cast, this series became one of its kind at that time.
