  • Nariman dedicated the first 22 years of his career to practising law at the Bombay High Court.
  • Then, in 1971, Fali S Nariman became the Senior Advocate in the Supreme Court of India.
  • India’s constitutional law has greatly benefited from Nariman’s contribution. From May 1972 to 25 June 1975, he was the Additional Solicitor General of India. Later he resigned from that post when Emergency was declared on 26 June 1975.
  • Fali Sam Nariman cases: He was also a big part of the infamous case of the Bhopal Gas Disaster. Nariman was arguing in favour of Union carbide in that case. But later he described that as his mistake. He contributed to the formation of a deal between the company and the victims outside of court. This deal offered an amount of $470 million to the victim of this tragedy.
  • Another famous case in which he argued was the case of the Supreme Court AoR association. In this case, the appointment of Judges in the Higher Judiciary was taken over by the Supreme Court.
  • Other important cases where he made an appearance were the Golak Nath case, the T.M.A Pai Foundation case and the S.P. Gupta case.
  • In the Narmada rehabilitation case, Fali Sam Nariman represented the Gujarat Government. Later he resigned from that job shorting after the alleged attacks on Christians in that area and the alleged burning of Bible copies.
  • In December 2009, he along with Shanti Bhushan, Ram Jethmalani, Anil B Divan, Prashant Bhushan and Kamini Jaiswal signed a statement that was issued by the Committee on Judicial Accountability. This statement said that only after a public debate, the judicial appointments should be made. The statement further said that these appointments should also be reviewed by members of the bar of the affected high courts. This whole controversy was created regarding the appointments of justices P. D. Dinakaran and C. K. Prasad.
  • On 17 October 2014, Nariman also obtained bail for J Jayalalitha (former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu) in a conviction. This bail was earlier rejected.
